Actor Dileep denied bail, Kerala court extends custody

In yet another setback to Dileep, the Angamaly Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Saturday rejected the popular Malayalam actor's bail plea and sent him to judicial custody till 25th July in connection to his alleged involvement in the abduction of and sexual assault on a prominent actress. He was represented by advocate Ramkumar.

The prosecution submitted that if the actor was granted bail, he might influence the witnesses, which in turn would affect the ongoing inquiry in the case.

"There is clear evidence against Dileep". Also, Dileep should not be given any special consideration because he is a film star, the policemen have been told.

They further added that there was already a PR exercise unleased, especially on social media, to garner sympathy for Dileep. Though Dileep was taken to Aluva sub jail, he was brought back to the court for some time. Dileep was arrested on Monday night, and on Tuesday he was remanded to 14 days judicial custody. For two hours she was sexually assaulted by at least four men who recorded the attack on a mobile phone.

Dileep had instructed Pulsar that the best team should be used for this attack and by no means should they contact Dileep over the phone.

The actor will appeal to the High Court next.

Although the prime accused, Pulsar Suni, was nabbed by the police within a few days, there was suspicion that the crime had a conspiracy behind it. The defence lawyer argued that the police were seeking extension of custody to find an approver, as they failed to find any evidence against the actor.
