2 ways you can help the family of slain Abbie Smith

A teenage neighbor of an 11-year-old New Jersey girl whose body was found near her home has been arrested and charged with her murder, authorities announced Friday, CBS New York reports.

Prosecutors in Monmouth County said Thursday that Abbiegail Smith's body was found around 10:45 a.m. near the apartment building where she lived in Keansburg.

In an interview before the vigil, Arron Reeves, a 35-year-old who has known the Smith family for seven years, said the little girl and her mother were best friends who could be seen everywhere together.

Locals say Abbiegail was found dead on the rooftop of a tan house located next to the apartment complex as they witnessed police placing tarps on the roof, but that information has not been confirmed.

"We were really hopeful that we would find her", Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said at a press conference after finding Smith.

The neighbor said Smith's mother was strict and didn't let her daughter leave the apartment without supervision.

Before Erazo's arrest, Gramiccioni said he believed Abbie's killing was an isolated incident, but stressed the hunt for the murderer would continue until justice was served.

Judge Richard English ordered Erazo held without bail pending a detention hearing Wednesday.

Webster said the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conduct an autopsy of the young girl today to determine the cause and manner of her death. You can't even look at us!

"I spoke to the loved ones of AbbieGail Smith", said Gramiccioni. He couldn't join them because he'd been deported in 2001, but he still corresponded with Smith on a daily basis, either by phone or text messages, he said.

"This is one of the worst crimes that I've seen as alleged". Brooklynn, who went to school with AbbieGail at Bolger Middle School, asked through tears.
