What Amazon gained from Prime Day 2017

Amazon said more new members joined Prime on July 11 than on any single day in Amazon history. The Dot was on sale for $34.99 (originally $50), and outsold thousands of other items that were also discounted like television sets and other household products.

The item that sold the most was the Echo Dot, a device that connects to speakers and harbors Alexa, Amazon's voice-activated digital assistant.

Keep in mind, the Echo devices aren't officially available in Canada yet, but can still be used in Canada.

Greg Greeley, vice president of Amazon Prime, says the goal is to offer deals to "a record number of shoppers". The third annual savings day dedicated to Prime users kicked off Monday night at 9:00 p.m. ET. Amazon has projected to generate sales of more than $2 billion for the company through this Prime Day sale of more than 24 hours. But the company did say there will be some "amazing" deals on a "variety" of television brands - including the Amazon Fire TV edition of the ultra high-definition Element 4K TV.

In terms of housewares, other Prime Day top sellers in the USA included the Instant Pot DUO80 7-in-1 multi-use programmable pressure cooker, which also was a high-demand item in Canada. And Amazon is concerned they may lose its substantial toe-hold with third-parties who build engaging apps and services that bring new customers to Alexa products.

Amazon Prime Day 2017 saw huge success. "We are already looking forward to our Prime Day celebration next year".

The world's largest online retailer said customers ordered more than three times as many Echo-family speakers than during Prime Day 2016, which at the time broke records for Amazon devices.

In a press release from Amazon, the company is quoted saying, "Within the first six hours, Furbo Dog Camera shot up to the No.1 Best Seller in four categories including the highly competitive pet supplies and home monitor category".

Amazon shares rose $12.38, or 1.25 percent, to close at $1,006.51 Wednesday.

Amazon has claimed that millions of Prime members had already bought on the website as of 4 a.m. on July 11, Tuesday, in NY.

And a quick fun fact: One of the fastest Prime Now deliveries on Prime Day was in Kirkland, Washington.

Overall, Prime Day 2017 was the biggest sales day ever for Amazon's entire device lineup.
