The teams announced the deal Monday, less than a week since the Golden Knights took Methot in the expansion draft from the Ottawa Senators.

Methot spent the first six seasons of his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2003. Joining the Stars, Methot should have every opportunity to see himself playing on the top-pairing alongside No. 1 defender John Klingberg in Dallas.

The Stars have a young defense that struggled last season and Nill is hoping Methot adds stability to a group that will likely feature at least four players under the age of 24.

The Dallas Stars have acquired the services of the defender of the Golden Knights Las Vegas ' Marc Methot on Monday night.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Methot recorded 12 points (0-12=12) in 68 games for Ottawa and ranked second on the club with 164 hits.

"Esa displayed great composure during his first season in the National Hockey League and we look forward to his continued development as a top player on our defense", said Nill. He finished second on the team by averaging 21:52 of time on ice per game and his +8 plus/minus rating finished third. The Dallas Stars have acquired Methot in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights. The 30-year-old had career bests with 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points last season. Fortunately, he was perfectly complemented in Ottawa with the offensively-gifted Karlsson who has proven to be a game-changer in the NHL since being drafted 15th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
