The Ritz-Carlton hotel brand is entering the luxury cruise market with the ultimate yacht.
The Ritz-Carlton has a long-term management contract. In doing so, it follows a path similar to Disney when it founded Disney Cruise Line in 1996.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection-also available for private charter-will offer initial itineraries that comprise seven- to 10-day getaways to destinations in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
While home ports for the ships have not yet been announced, booking will begin next May.More news: Andre De Grasse claims 100m victory
Ritz-Carlton is building three, 298-passenger yachts for its new Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. The first of three lavish cruising yachts in this series is scheduled to take to sea in the fourth quarter of 2019, and distinguishes Marriott International as the only provider of luxury accommodations both on land and at sea.
"This unique combination of yachting and cruising will usher in a new way of luxury travel for guests seeking to discover the world", said Herve Humler, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in the press release. The hotel company's property on South Beach, designed by Morris Lapidus in the 1950s, already resembles an ocean liner with balconies that echo those found on cruise ships. "By bringing The Ritz-Carlton's legacy of service together with Kazakhstan's traditional culture of hospitality, our guests will feel truly at home in this city as they experience all that Astana has to offer as it comes into its own". Other features include a restaurant by Sven Elverfeld of Aqua, the three-star Michelin restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg; a signature Ritz-Carlton Spa; and a Panorama Lounge and wine bar, offering a wide variety of entertainment.
"Much like the monument it overlooks, The Ritz-Carlton, Astana represents the future of Astana and acknowledges the city's growing power and prominence", added Humler. Because these yachts will be smaller than your typical cruise ship, the vessels will be able to dock in smaller ports like Cartagena, Colombia; Capri, Italy; and St. Barths. The Ritz-Carlton hotel chain has made a decision to take luxury to the seas by launching its own cruise business.
