Midler ignores exit music during Tony Awards speech

Platt thanked his cast mates, crew and family, calling his parents his heroes.

In his acceptance speech, Platt encouraged young people to be unusual, because "the thing that make you odd are the things that make you powerful".

Kevin Kline accepts the award for best performance by an actor in a leading role in a play for "Present Laughter" at the 71st annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in NY.

And of course, the legendary Bette Midler was named best leading actress in a musical for her performance in the title role. "This thing has the ability to lift your spirits in these bad times", she continued. Ben Platt performed on the Tony show, and sent the album as we used to say "flying off shelves".

This was the first time that the only award won by a musical was Best Director.

The real-life political thriller tells the story of the Norwegian couple who coordinated the secret talks that led to the handshake between Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat on the lawn of the White House, and earned both the Nobel Peace Prize, shared with Shimon Peres.

Kevin Kline won Best Actor (Play) for "Present Laughter". And in choreography, Andy Blankenbuehler joined his "Hamilton" colleague Lacamoire with a repeat win this year, this time for "Bandstand". Rebecca Taichman won best directing play honors for "Indecent".

Dear Evan Hansen', a daringly unflinching exploration of loss, lies and loneliness in a high school community, won the 2017 Tony Award for the best musical.

The star-studded award show also featured celebs including host Kevin Spacey, Sally Field, Danny DeVito, Cynthia Nixon, and more!

Spacey also incorporated a number of impressions in his hosting performance throughout the evening, among them being a not-so-funny Jimmy Carson (but to be fair, Carson was never all that amusing himself), former President Bill Clinton, and the role that most millennials know him for, Frank Underwood from House of Cards.

Other show highlights will be the return of the Rockettes on a Tony stage after 13 years and the decision to have all four playwrights nominated for best play Tonys appear to present their works.

On Sunday night, Midler won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
