125-Pound Droopy, Drooling Mastiff Wins World's Ugliest Dog Contest

She constantly plopped down on her side on the stage, her droopy face spread out when she was supposed to be showing off.

"The dog, from nearby Sebastopol, was rescued when she was almost blind from neglect by the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project in Sonoma County, where the contest was held".

Now Martha, whom Burkard, 29, calls "adorable", has become all the rage on social media and is headed to NY to appear on "The Today Show".

We have a new World's Ugliest Dog and she's a big one.

Martha is a three-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff and will hold the title until next year's contest.

"She knocks over every water bucket no matter how securely attached to the fence", said owner Shirley Dawn Zindler of her homely hound.

Martha competed against more than a dozen other dogs to take the crown at the contest in Sonoma-Marin Fair on Saturday.

Moe, a 16-year-old Brussels griffon-pug mix from Santa Rosa, California, who was the oldest in the competition, came in second.

The 13 other contestants were judged on first impressions, unusual attributes, personality and audience reaction.

Chase, a 14-year-old Chinese Crested-Harke mix, from Neath, U.K., took the third place.

At the competition, held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in California, the unsightly yet lovable dogs were paraded down a red carpet with the hopes of winning $1,500, a trophy and a trip to NY for media appearances.

The Chinese Crested (this one named Sweepee Rambo, with proud dad Jason Wurtz) has dominated ugly dog comps because. well, this.

Numerous contestants were adopted.

Fans of dogs who are amusing looking or, as some may call them, oddly attractive, gathered for the 29th annual ugliest dog contest.
