Man killed while biking along Kansas highway

A California man participating in a cross-country bike race has died after he was struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

The crash report says a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on K-96 when it hit Fishbein from behind.

A 61-year-old San Luis Obispo bicyclist was struck and killed in Kansas Saturday night amid a bike race across the United States. Fishbein was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fishbein was participating in the Trans Am Bike Race, a cross county race that begins in Astoria, Oregon and concludes in Yorktown, Virginia.

Cyclists who participate in the 4300 mile, cross-country race, do so without any assistance from a team and auto or vehicle following behind.

KAKE also reported that no one else was injured in the crash, which is under investigation.

A rider has been killed while competing in the Trans Am ultra-endurance race across America.

"Some will keep pedaling, some will go home".
