Jay Z recently sparked rumours Beyonce had gone into labour when he skipped an appearance at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards, where he was due to be inducted by former USA president Barack Obama.

"Bey and Jay are thrilled and have started sharing the news with their family and closest friends", a source said.

Beyoncé has reportedly given birth!

Beyonce married rapper Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, in 2008 after a five-year relationship following several collaborations, including on her 2003 hit Crazy In Love.

It was also noted that during a video message recorded for Jay Z's induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, former president Barack Obama may have revealed the gender of the twins.

Sources also told E! But rarely have we seen the same levels of hysteria as those that have accompanied reports that Beyoncé has welcomed two new tiny people into the world.

Beyoncé, 35, and Jay Z, 47, are already parents to 5-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

"We would like to share our love and happiness", Beyonce captioned the stunning shot, which caught fans by surprise.

Speculation about the twins' birth had grown in recent days after a woman was photographed entering a Los Angeles hospital on Friday holding a card that read "B + J", the BBC reported.

She pulled out of her headlining spot at April's Coachella music festival in southern California, however, on the advice of her doctors.

On Thursday, Jay Z took to Twitter to shout out his favorite rappers and influences. We send our thoughts and condolences to his loved ones during this hard time.
