'Will Trump Regret This?' President Vows to Testify Under Oath

While Trump maintained he did not ask Comey to let the FBI's investigation into Flynn go, he told reporters "there'd be nothing wrong if I did say it".

"No collusion. No obstruction". "If I didn't, I did it for almost all of them, especially the ones that were substantive", he said. You have to run up the whole East Coast, and you have to win everything as a Republican, and that's what we did. So it was just an excuse, but we were very, very happy. And frankly, James Comey confirmed a lot of what I said. "And some of the things that he said just weren't true".

Trump demurred when asked whether tapes of his talks with Comey actually exist.

The Russia investigation is now being handled by a high-powered special prosecutor.

According to CNN, Mr Trump's outside counsel Marc Kasowitz is planning to file a complaint against Mr Comey with the Justice Department Inspector General and the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"The administration then chose to defame me and more importantly the Federal Bureau of Investigation by saying that the organisation was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the work force had lost confidence in its leader", Mr Comey said.

On Friday, Trump said on three occasions that the media would soon know about whether tapes existed. "I'm not hinting anything".

When reporters pressed him, he said he would disclose that "in a very short period of time".

Trump's decision to weigh in personally on Comey's testimony represented a sharp shift in strategy for the White House and could come with political risk for Trump, who has potentially undermined himself legally on other matters through his tweets, including his attempt to impose a "travel ban" on immigrants from some majority-Muslim countries. And, "You're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer".

Comey's testimony added fuel to critics' accusations that Trump's actions around the Russian Federation probe might have amounted to obstruction of justice. He also said he took Trump's comments about the Flynn probe "as a direction".

A few days after Comey was sacked, Trump warned via Twitter that "Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Standing with the president of Romania, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation partner, Trump at last confirmed his commitment to the alliance's mutual defense pact, Article 5, uttering words he deliberately did not say when he spoke at NATO's gathering in Belgium last month.

Trump's aides have dodged questions about whether conversations relevant to the Russian Federation investigation have been recorded, and so did the president, in series of teases.

But Comey did not provide any proverbial smoking gun.

Trump cryptically refused to say whether those private exchanges were taped - a matter at the heart of the conflicting accounts of what passed between them at a time when Comey was leading an FBI investigation into Russia's interference in the presidential election and its ties to the Trump campaign.
