Predators freeze out Penguins to level Stanley Cup

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pekka Rinne's struggles in Pittsburgh have his Nashville Predators on the brink of elimination.

Crosby scored the Penguins' only goal and produced a masterful performance throughout the night, skating with an authority and speed that was rare even for his lofty standards.

Yannick Weber #7 of the Nashville Predators is defended by Trevor Daley #6 of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the third period in Game Five of the 2017 NHL Stanley Cup Final at PPG PAINTS Arena on June 8, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Gaudreau scored what proved to be the game victor early in the second period but his wraparound goal was only awarded after a random horn sounded 35 seconds later to stop play and initiate a video review.

Singer and actress Carrie Underwood, who's married to Predators captain Mike Fisher, admitted that she hadn't gotten her husband a birthday present.

It looks like neither road team can win a game in this series, as every contest seems to be a home blowout.

"The real hockey starts now", Subban said. Rinne has allowed 11 goals on 45 shots in seven periods of play during the Stanley Cup Final in Pittsburgh. Crosby shot the lone goal for the Pens in Game Four.

Crosby started the first-period surge for Pittsburgh when he split Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis on the opening shift of the game and hit the post. Jake Guentzel leads Pittsburgh with 13 goals, Evgeni Malkin has 18 assists and Phil Kessel has 67 shots on goal.

Rust beat Rinne to the glove side with a backhander a little more than five minutes later and Malkin made it 3-0 with 10.2 seconds left in the first period.

On the ensuing power play, Crosby set up Schultz for a slap shot that went under Rinne's pads for a 1-0 Pittsburgh lead 1:31 into the first.

Pittsburgh goaltender Matt Murray not only avoided losing three straight games for the first time in his career, but he also stopped 24 shots for his second shutout of these playoffs, the third in the postseason of his career. She's hoping a Stanley Cup championship will fill that void.

Now, Rinne and the Predators, facing elimination for the first time in the playoffs, will have to win at home on Sunday to extend the series. We need to have guys to continue to play the game at a high level because of where we're at in the season right now.
