Additionally, watchOS 4 offers a long-awaited update to the Music app, adds a new dock to scroll through recently used apps and brings Apple News to the Apple Watch for the first time. Also coming with watchOS 4 are kaleidoscope and Toy Story-themed watches. The Music app supports multiple playlists, too.

"Apple Watch is the ultimate device for a healthy life and is now more intelligent than ever with watchOS 4", said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. Developers have access to watchOS 4 today, and Apple Watch users will receive it as a free update this fall.

Fitness tracking functionality is going to be extended further with watchOS4. The company is set to announce all sorts of super cool goodies at WWDC'17 and is kicking off the event with new additions to the Apple Watch.

The Workout app got some attention, too, and may be more interesting to athletes than in the past. The app will now be more focused on motivating the user. Use connected gym equipment? Apple has also prepped an updated Workout experience in watchOS 4.

Person to person payments, which was also demonstrated in the recent iOS 11 announcement, will also make its way to watchOS 4, allowing users to transfer money to friends and family in a way that resembles the iMessage app. For example, you'll be able to set monthly challenges and check them off as you complete them. Apple Watch Nike+ starts at $369 (US). My Favorites Mix and My New Music Mix require an Apple Music® subscription. If you're using a treadmill, elliptical, or other machine that can connect to an NFC-enabled device, you can pair the Apple Watch to it so you can see information like heart rate directly on the machine.
