Manchester United make Raphael Varane key target?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly placed Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane on his shortlist for the transfer window.

But while the current United boss couldn't qualify for the Champions League through their league position, victory in the Europa League final was enough to secure safe passage to Europe's elite club competition.

Former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson was interested in bringing Varane to Old Trafford after the Frenchman impressed during his debut season at Lens.

Lingard scored Manchester United's FA Cup final victor last season and was on target in this term's EFL Cup final victory over Southampton.

Jose Mourinho is set for a huge squad overhaul in the summer, and with Champions League football guaranteed, he is clearly setting his sights high.

With two trophies added to the cabinet, it's hard to judge Manchester United's season as being a success or not.

"They've now got almost £90m in the bank for a talented player who's still yet to prove if he's top class".

"I think it was a means to an end and he's got his trophies".

Jose Mourinho was in charge at the Bernabeu when Varane relocated to Actual in 2011, training the defender for two seasons at the club, as well as he has determined the France worldwide as a target for United in this home window as he aims to strengthen his protective options.

"Set aside the money side, it attracts players to the club again and it's a massive advantage for United". The Champions League is a massive tournament and they have to be there.
