Rooney close to revealing decision on future

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has revealed what Zlatan Ibrahimovic told the ball boys during Wednesday's Europa League final in his native Stockholm, Sweden.

"I think I just have to make a decision in terms of a football decision, and that´s what I´ll do".

Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic did not start for United as he was injured but did play an important role in his side reaching the final.

Against an Ajax side that had garnered a lot of hype in the build-up to the match, United were able to physically impose themselves on the game from an early stage, defending efficiently against the Dutch side's attempts at intricate play.

The 31-year-old skipper became England and Manchester United's leading goal-scorer in what were high points in an otherwise disappointing 2016-17 campaign.

"We just had to put a message out to say the supporters may be here, looking like they're enjoying themselves at a football match but the thoughts of everyone are back in Manchester". Often, to win finals you must first lose them.

The Europa League joins the Community Shield and EFL Cup in Mourinho's trophy cabinet after his first season at Old Trafford and he will look to build on that success in the Champions League next season.

Team-mate Smalling echoed those sentiments, adding: "I think there was an extra determination".

"We went out focused to win and we won for Manchester and the country", he told BT Sport.

Ferguson, who is now 75, managed United for 27 years, winning 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League crowns, the FA Cup on five occasions and the League Cup four times. "You have to learn from it".

The trophy is not the only lift the club gave the city as United and Manchester City pledged £1 million ($1.3m, 1.2m euros) on Thursday to an emergency fund set up for the victims and their families.

Despite admitting that his first term at Man United was his "most hard season as a manager", Mourinho says he can now take a deserved rest having accomplished the task of leading the club back among Europe's elites.
