HTC is building a stand-alone Daydream headset that runs on Vive tech


Subsequent to Google's announcement, both Lenovo and HTC have launched pages on their web sites covering the new standalone headsets they are working on for Google.

Daydream was unveiled a year ago with the Pixel and has expanded out to a handful of other devices like the Moto Z. Google's augmented reality platform Tango has been up until this point available on a limited number of phones - namely, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro and Asus ZenFone AR.

According to this rumor, Google is planning to show off a standalone VR headset.

WorldSense makes use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 VR platform, which builds on the chipmaker's earlier work with Google to enable Daydream on smartphones.

These standalone headsets will use inside-out positional tracking to allow users to move through virtual spaces that correspond with the real world, something that Google calls WorldSense.

We haven't exactly heard much with regards to Daydream from Google's partners since the project was first announced previous year, with the only high-profile devices being Google's own Pixel devices, the LG G6, Moto Z family and the ASUS ZenFone AR.

This was announced during Google's annual technology event Google I/O 2017.

Most current VR systems rely on a wired connection to a computer or a smartphone to be placed into the headset acting as the screen in order to function.

Bavor said Google's new VR headset would be available to the public later in the year. The announcement did not reveal many details except for the model name, "Vive Standalone", and the descriptions - "simplistic, lightweight and portable".

Tango is also one of the core technologies behind the company's new Visual Positioning Service (VPS), which helps devices understand their location indoors.

It is also clear that the actual hardware may be manufactured by individual companies licensed to use the Daydream platform and with the VR related chipset being supplied through Qualcomm.
