President Donald Trump spoke at the 36th Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol on Monday. National Police Week and the Peace Officers Memorial Day draw almost 40,000 law enforcement officers and their families to Washington, D.C. every year.
Across the country people are honoring Police Officer Memorial Week, a way of honoring the law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price.
"The attacks on our police are a stain on the very fabric of our society and you are entitled to leadership at the highest level", Trump added.
A Police Memorial Day service will take place Monday in Savannah.
"America stands strong with our men and women in blue", Trump continued.

Trump also seemed to conflate protests against police brutality with a rise in murders of police officers in recent years.
At a weekend vigil, 394 officer names were officially added to over 20,000 already listed on the The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in DC.
Originally, Police Memorial Day was celebrated only in Washington, D.C., but local memorial service observances across the country began in 1982.
Officers even showed off their skills at Autozone Park by providing a K9 demonstration and using the police helicopter to deliver the game ball on Monday.
Upstanding law enforcement officers deserve our thanks for putting their lives on the line every day for our safety and security. "We pay tribute to their strength, their honor, their courage, and comfort those or try to comfort those who they left behind", said Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly. He also said that it's "time to work with our cops, not against them".
