'Android O' beta released, Android OS now on 2 bn active devices

While Google didn't announce new Google Home speaker hardware, hot on the heels of the Amazon Echo Show, it did debut a few key new software features. And some might wonder why should they do this when they already have Siri?

Google I/O 2017 is among the most popular tech events of the year.

Android apps can now autofill with username and passwords saved within the Google Chrome web browser, which should save you a lot of time.

The update is rolling out with software version OPP2.170420.017. Android Go will have a feature where the users will be able to preview the videos in Youtube and will also get to know how much data will the video eat.

The functionality of the Android Instant Apps is not a new, distinct app but just an update to the existing Android app. This feature will enable Android users to do any task along with watching a video.

So, without further ado, these are the most important things Google announced previous year. Introducing Android Go is part of the company's effort to get the next 2 billion. However, what is rather absurd is that these dots on the apps appear only when there is an active notification in the notification shade. The number of apps available for the platform has grown to over 3,000.

Processing that data in the cloud comes with several downsides, according to Patrick Moorhead, principal analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy: Users must be willing to transfer their data to a company's servers, and they have to be in an environment with rich enough connectivity to make sure the operation is low-latency.

"The user simply says, I want to talk to Panera", Capiel said.

For those with Chromecast devices, the integration will tighten further with you being able to ask to see something, such as a calendar, and it will be brought up on nearest TV screen.

That reflects a recognition by the search giant that the assistant and other apps will be increasingly important to its future, said analyst Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research.

Gmail users will start seeing this feature later this week. Interestingly, the company is also working on a new initiative called Android Go that's set for release in 2018.

We quickly realised Google Assistant was very similar to the outgoing Google Now, with a different name but not drastically better abilities.

Google, which gets most of its revenue from its dominant search engine, also released a host of new features for Google Home, a speaker released a year ago.
