Police identified the attacker at UT as Kendrex White, 21, and said he was suffering from mental illness. He was identified as Harrison Brown, a freshman and talented musician.

"The guy was standing next to me", Prichett said. Then, she heard people scream.

"My roommate's friend just had a knife put to their throats and the person checked to see if she had Greek letters underneath her hoodie."
She saw him walk up to a guy, grab him by his shoulder and stab him in the back.

In an email to campus late Monday, President Gregory L. Fenves wrote that he understood frustrations about the speed of notifications and that "I am committed to faster notification in the future".

Responding to the 1:49 p.m. call about a stabbing, campus police saw the suspect walking away from a person lying on the ground, Carter said. The officer said White ignored his commands before he walked into Jester.

David Carter, the school's police chief stated that the man calmly attacked the four students on the campus plaza. "He didn't seem to be hotheaded; he didn't seem to be an angry person or anything like that", Verastegui said.

Fenves said in another statement released Tuesday morrning that two victims have been discharged from the hospital. Harrison was an inspiration to everyone around him. "We had him in custody as soon as we arrived".

Brown died at the scene, and the other three, whose identities were not immediately released, were being treated at University Medical Centre Brackenridge. One student was hospitalised in that attack. The group's new president, Melody Adindu, says White was passionate about his work and that she knew him as "very interactive and easygoing".

For one UT lecturer, Jack Stamps, Wednesday's challenge was coming to terms with idea one of his students was stabbed to death - and explaining it to the class he would have been attending.

"He was involved all the time and he was at every meeting", Crawford said. He was a junior majoring in Biology at Austin's UT. Springer said White was always smiling and the "nicest guy". However, he did notice something unusual in his behavior as he missed an entire month of Spanish class.

"It was unusual", he said. A search on his criminal records showed that he was arrested in early April for allegedly driving while intoxicated.

Harrison Brown, a 2016 graduate of Graham High School, was killed in a stabbing attack at the University of Texas. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families of this incredibly senseless attack". No others were injured. Charles Whitman, a former Marine sharpshooter and UT-Austin student, climbed to the top of the tower on August 1, 1966 and killed 16 people and wounded scores of others. He killed his wife and mother the previous night. "There is no immediate threat at this time", they said. The stabbings took place Monday afternoon.

There are no words to describe my sense of loss. "As the investigations into these heinous crimes continue, I have offered all available state resources to both Dallas and the University of Texas to assist in any effort". Since then, the university has made extensive security upgrades on the campus.

The three male stabbing victims, all 20 or 21 years old, were receiving treatment at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, police said. In a separate incident, the Belo Center for New Media was briefly evacuated after a reported bomb threat. After he left there, he kicked a woman as if to get her out of his way, the police chief said.
