The Nintendo Switch is the Fastest Selling Console in Nintendo History

According to a report by the NPD Group, which tracks the sale of video games in the USA, the Nintendo Switch system sold more than 906,000 units in the month of March, making it one of the fastest-selling gaming systems of all times. That makes it the fastest-selling game in The Legend of Zelda series, and the best-selling Nintendo launch title.

The company's latest console just became the fastest selling video game system in the the company's history.

Nintendo says the Switch is its fastest-selling console in history - besting the Wii and the Super Nintendo, among others. Breath of the Wild, meanwhile, sold 1.3 million copies across Switch and Wii U in that same window (925,000 units were sold for Nintendo Switch/460,000 units sold for the Wii U).

The official global sales figure will be released on April 21 - when the company reports its full year earnings for the year ended March 31. The news of sales number is revealing how well not only the Switch is doing but also Zelda. Those sales are surprising considering no other Nintendo console has reached that scale.

A game that comes out on two consoles has an OK chance of outselling the new one it launches with, but pulling it off without even needing the previous-generation sales is a truly impressive feat.

The Nintendo Switch is selling fast and breaking records at Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch is sold out at nearly every store, with Ebay having the only inventory. "Accordingly, we think Nintendo will launch a lighter, dedicated handheld version of the Switch, possibly to be called the Switch Mini". Granted there is a difference between shipped and sold, but hopefully Nintendo will add some clarity to the issue when it holds its quarterly financial meeting later this month. Including the launching of the world's most powerful console, the Project Scorpio, alongside an awesome lineup of new Xbox One games. With over 900,000 units sold since its debut in March, the Nintendo Switch has really made a splash in the video game world.
