Tad Cummins, 50, was arrested and 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas was "safely recovered", TBI tweeted.
The cabin's caretaker alerted law enforcement to their presence and helped them hatch a plan to draw Cummins from the residence unarmed and without Thomas, the cabin's owner told CNN. "What happened in California this morning, however, proves it only takes one person to lead to a successful end".

There had been only one confirmed sighting of the pair - at an Oklahoma City Walmart just two days after Thomas went missing - in the almost six weeks since the teenager was reported missing by her parents.
"He is charged with transportation of a minor across state lines for the objective of sexual intercourse", Smith said. She will fly back to Tennessee on a TBI aircraft and her family is awaiting her arrival, authorities said.
One of the email drafts shared with WAAY begins with Cummins telling Thomas that he "saw you standing next to you [sic] backpack this morning".

The new details include information about how the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found out the two were in Oklahoma City on March 15. The tipster, who said he had rented out the cabin to Cummins and Elizabeth, said in an interview with Today that they said they were from Colorado and that Cummis had claimed that Thomas was 24 and he was in his 30s.
The teacher, Tad Cummins, has been taken into custody by authorities.
Cummins, 55, is accused of kidnapping Thomas, 15, on March 13 in Columbia, Tennessee.
Cummins surrendered without incident, the TBI said, and Thomas was rescued by authorities.
When Cummins' wife, Jill, got home that evening, she found a note from her husband saying he was gone to Virgina Beach or the D.C. area to clear his head, according to the court records. She had no idea why her husband went to northern California.
The girl's father, Anthony Thomas, had told NBC News that he believed Cummins was grooming the children in his class - telling them lies including that he had previously worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency.
In addition to the state charges he was already facing, Cummins now faces a charge of transportation of a minor across state lines for the goal of having criminal sexual intercourse, which carries at least a 10 year prison sentence.
