Deadline reports that Smith is now in talks to play Genie in the upcoming film, which is set to begin filming in the United Kingdom this summer.

Now, all we need is for Smith to grant us one of our three wishes and sign on to play the magical role.

The original role of Genie was of course played by Robin Williams, who sadly took his own life in 2014.

It looks like Will Smith could be trading his Bel Air throne for phenomenal cosmic powers.

Deadline reports that Will Smith is now in discussions to take on the iconic role of Genie in Disney's upcoming live-action ALADDIN.

Disney and Smith were still interested in working together though, so the studio shortlisted him when this opportunity arose. That said, it is seemingly the best possible choice for Disney to not try and get someone to do their best approximation of that performance. Will Smith certainly has the charisma and he most definitely has some serious acting chops as well, both in more serious roles and in big blockbuster movies. THE VOICE cast featured Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Gilbert Gottfried, and Douglas Seale.

No release date has been set for Aladdin, but it will join a growing number of live-action Disney adaptations which include previous releases Cinderella, Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, as well as the upcoming Dumbo, Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Mulan, among others.

Ritchie will direct from a script written by John August, the scribe who amusing enough worked with Burton on Big Fish. The project comes amid a wave of beloved Disney toons being remade as live-action movies.
