Real Madrid prepare mega bid to sign Man Utd goalie De Gea

Sergio Romero admits that he could not turn down the chance to join Manchester United, even it meant being number two goalkeeper to David de Gea.

David de Gea's girlfriend, Edurne Silva, is likely to have the biggest say on his Old Trafford future, according to club insiders.

But Madrid president Florentino Perez is desperate to get a deal done for De Gea.

"We expect him to come this summer".

If the deal does happen it will totally eclipse the £32.7m paid by Juventus to Parma to land Gigi Buffon back in 2001. De Gea became the second-most expensive when he moved to United from Atletico Madrid for an estimated £18.9 million in 2011, per BBC Sport.

The Spanish giants desperately want De Gea and are ready to nearly double the previous highest fee for a goalkeeper.

The Spanish giants are set to launch what would be a world record bid for a keeper and are confident they can finally lure their man back to Madrid.

Then last summer, Madrid failed to trigger a £30m clause inserted into the new contract De Gea signed weeks after his move to the Bernabeu fell through.

Former Manchester United assistant manager Giggs explained why De Gea secures a place in his Premier League team of the year ahead of Courtois and Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris.
