Patriots Compare Comeback Super Bowl Win to Trump's Presidential Race


Tight End Martellus Bennett told reporters after the Super Bowl: "It is what it is". No-shows from this year's Super Bowl-winning football team included quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Danny Amendola.

The president borrowed a line from Patriots' head coach Bill Belichick to compare the heavy lifting he's trying to do as president to that of winning a Super Bowl.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski butted into the White House daily press briefing with Sean Spicer on Wednesday, proving once again he likes to ham it up for the cameras.

The White House celebrations were overshadowed by the suicide of the Patriots former star Aaron Hernandez, who hanged himself on Wednesday in a prison cell where he was serving a life sentence for murder, prison officials said.

Their remarks on Wednesday were limited to the ceremony, in which Kraft said, "It's a distinct honor for us to celebrate what was unequivocally our sweetest championship with a very good friend and somebody whose mental toughness and strength I greatly admire". Some noted their differences with the Republican administration, though others did not an issue a reason for their absence.

"I've know him for a long time and he always gives me a call on different types of motivational speeches at different times", Brady said. He cited a "family commitment" at the time, but there was speculation he declined because of some unflattering comments a spokesman for President Barack Obama made about the "Deflategate" scandal.
