Indian techies working in Australia would not be affected by its government's move on visas granted to them under a specific category, said the Indian IT industry's representative body Nasscom on Wednesday. The majority of the visa holders under this category were from India, accounting nearly a quarter of the intake.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on Wednesday said the 457 changes were "already unravelling", pointing to an analysis by the ALP that showed just 8.6 per cent of people now on foreign worker visas were working in jobs that would be excluded under the new visa system.

Employers who hire foreign workers will have to contribute to a new training fund to support apprenticeships and traineeships.
A list of 650 occupations that now qualify for a temporary visa will be cut by 200 and applicants must have previous work experience.
