Car Bomb kills 2 In Mogadishu

Suicide vehicle bomb explosion were targeted near Somali national Army base in Mogadishu's Wadajir district on Monday earlier morning officials and eyewitness said.

MOGADISHU, Somalia- A local TV cameraman working for UK-based Somali channel, Universal TV, Abdihamid Mohamed Karzay has been critically wounded in auto bomb blast in Mogadishu on Sunday, Garowe Online reports.

Police said the second blast went off outside the Wehliye Hotel on Maka al Mukaram Street. "The death toll may rise further", Abdikadir Abdirahman, director of the aid-funded Aamin Ambulance services said.

Hours before the assault, police shot at a minibus, which later exploded after the driver refused to stop as it approached a checkpoint, also in Mogadishu, police officer Nur Osman told Reuters, adding that the driver was killed and two bystanders were wounded.

"So far two civilians have died and two others were injured", Mohamed Hussein, a police officer, told Reuters.

In July, 2015, Al Shabaab truck bomb attack at Jazeera Palace hotel left a TV journalist working for UK-based Somali channel, Universal TV Mohamed Abdikarin Moallim dead and a colleague and presenter Salman Jamal Saed wounded.

In recent years, Al Shabab has lost most of its territory to African Union peacekeepers supporting the UN-backed Somali government.

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab group has focussed on Mogadishu and other government-controlled regions in a number of gun, grenade and bomb attacks in Somalia.
