Big Three Returns as Cavaliers Rally Past Scrappy Lakers

The Cavaliers weathered three listless quarters and a 40-point barrage by Lakers sophomore, D'Angelo Russell, to rally late past L.A. - pulling away for the 125-120 victory on Sunday night at the Staples Center.

"I think we have to treat those games like they're afternoon games, and you don't play the night before". Is he responsible only to his team and his players?

"Kid has a lot of talent". "He has the in between game, can handle the ball".

When the Cleveland Cavaliers' Big Three doesn't play, people take notice.

Still, coaches and organizations have valid reasons for resting players, too.

The NBA was peeved this week, according to Cavaliers general manager David Griffin, after the team chose to rest LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love for a nationally televised game against the Clippers, a game the Cavaliers lost 108-78. Every NBA general manager would sign up to lose a game in March if it meant winning four in May. For the league, national television games are supposed to represent the best product the league has to offer, while fans often pay lucrative amounts for tickets to these games to see superstars in person.

With LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love all sitting on Saturday vs. the Los Angeles Clippers, an ongoing National Basketball Association problem appears to be getting worse, the willingness of National Basketball Association teams to "rest" players while still charging fans full price for the tickets.

"At the end of the day, it sucks at times where certain guys have to rest but certain guys need rest", LeBron James told reporters on Sunday.

Is sitting stars during road trip games inconvenient for fans?

The NBA is going to start a week earlier next year, in hopes of stretching out the schedule and getting players a little more rest and have fewer back-to-backs. "You're going to have certain games where certain things fall on certain nights, but a coach's job is to figure out a way for their team to compete for a championship, not compete for a game".

"They played well against us, but I know our team and the way we are". It's a pain to make special accommodations, only to not get to see what you paid for.

I'm a fan of LeBron.

But Tyronn Lue, the Cavaliers coach, stood by the decision, arguing that team has to play six games in nine days, and Love and Irving are nursing injuries.

LeBron definitely wants to appear in yet another NBA Finals, so maybe that's helping him come to term with missing a regular season game here and there. Cavaliers forward Kevin Love was out of Saturday's game likely because he just returned from knee surgery on Thursday.
